Abstract

There are many potential aspects of safety, health and environmental risks in wastewater treatment plants, each of which can lead to adverse safety, health and environmental consequences, including occupational accidents for personnel or the discharge of untreated wastewater into the environment and possible contamination, including pollution. In this study, safety, health and environmental risks in the industrial wastewater treatment plant of Hashtgerd Industrial Park and in various processes were identified, and the FEMA risk assessment method was used to analyze and assess the risk and identify high-risk risks. Out of a total of 28 identified health, safety and environmental risk aspects, 23 were classified as high-risk. Control methods have been proposed to eliminate or reduce the risk of hazards. Among the high-severity risks, the risk of environmental pollution caused by aeration and the emission of unpleasant odors and the safety and health risk caused by chlorine gas leakage were identified.
